Editor's Take:
Jim Carrey's elastic face and boundless energy made him the comedy king of the 1990s. He grew up in Ontario, where his family went through hard times, and began doing stand-up as a teenager in Toronto. He found fame on the sketch show In Living Color. In 1994 alone, Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber made him a huge star. He then surprised critics with gentle, serious roles in The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In later years he has devoted much of his time to painting.
