Editor's Take:
Basshunter is a fascinating case of internet-age fame, building a following online before mainstream success arrived. The Swedish producer Jonas Altberg first gained attention with tracks shared freely on the internet, including a song inspired by the online game Defence of the Ancients. His English-language hit Now You're Gone topped the UK singles chart in 2008, a rare feat for a Swedish dance act. His catchy, high-energy Eurodance sound became a soundtrack for a generation of club-goers and gamers. He shows how online communities can launch careers that traditional record labels would have overlooked.
