Editor's Take:
Nero is remembered as Rome's most notorious emperor. He came to power at 16, guided at first by his mother Agrippina and the philosopher Seneca. Over time he turned against them, and had his mother murdered. In AD 64 the Great Fire destroyed much of Rome. He blamed the Christians and persecuted them. He loved music and chariot racing and performed in public, shocking the elite. Facing revolt and abandoned by all, he took his own life at 30.
