Editor's Take:
Juana was the heir to the Spanish kingdoms after the deaths of her siblings. Her marriage to Philip of Austria was stormy. After his sudden death she was said to have travelled with his coffin. Her father, and later her son, ruled in her name. They claimed she was too unwell to govern. She spent most of her life shut away in a palace in Tordesillas. Historians still argue over whether she was truly mad.
