Editor's Take:
Vin Diesel made his own break. Frustrated by casting directors who did not know where to place him, he wrote and directed a short film about his experience. It caught Steven Spielberg's eye. Then came the street-racing film that grew into one of Hollywood's biggest franchises. As Dominic Toretto he built the series around one word, family. He is also a famously keen player of Dungeons & Dragons. Fans find that side of him charming.
