Editor's Take:
Robert Hooke had ideas faster than he could finish them. His Micrographia revealed fleas, cork and snowflakes in stunning detail. It inspired a generation of scientists. He worked on springs, light, gravity and fossils. He also helped Christopher Wren design rebuilt London. A bitter feud with Isaac Newton helped push his reputation into the shadows. Historians now see him as one of the great experimenters of his age. No authentic portrait of him is known to survive.
