Profile
Paracelsus: Revolutionary Renaissance Physician
Swiss physician, born 1493
Paracelsus was born in Egg on 10 November 1493.
Paracelsus publicly burned medical texts by Galen and Avicenna in Basel's market square on 23 June 1527 to demonstrate his contempt for conventional medicine.
He earned the title 'father of toxicology' through his pioneering work emphasising observation alongside traditional wisdom during the medical revolution.
His German-language lectures at Basel University in 1527 broke with academic tradition to make medical knowledge accessible to all students.
