Larry Sanger co-founded Wikipedia, one of the most visited websites in the world. He earned a doctorate in philosophy and was hired by Jimmy Wales to edit Nupedia, an online encyclopedia written by experts. Progress was slow. In January 2001 Sanger suggested using a wiki so that anyone could contribute, and he came up with the name Wikipedia. It grew explosively. He left the project in 2002. He has since become a vocal critic, arguing that it has lost its neutrality.
