Editor's Take:
Harris's career combined progressive instincts with prosecutorial pragmatism. Her San Francisco reentry programme achieved a remarkable recidivism rate below ten per cent. Yet her truancy initiative prosecuted parents, a tactic that drew criticism despite reducing chronic absenteeism. Her vice presidency saw record tie-breaking votes, reflecting Senate deadlock. The daughter of immigrant scholars from India and Jamaica, she represents demographic shifts reshaping American politics. Her rapid ascent from state prosecutor to presidential nominee in under two decades demonstrates both her ambition and the Democratic Party's search for coalition-building candidates.
