Editor's Take:
Lorenzo Ganganelli was a Franciscan friar and theologian. He was elected under heavy pressure from the Catholic kings. They wanted the Jesuit order abolished. He delayed for four years before giving way. His decree dissolved one of the Church's largest orders. The papal territories seized by France and Naples were then returned. He also helped found one of the Vatican's great museums of ancient sculpture.
