Carl Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist who reshaped how we think about the mind. He worked closely with Sigmund Freud before the two broke apart over ideas. Jung believed that, beneath personal memories, people share a collective unconscious full of universal symbols. He called these patterns archetypes, such as the hero or the shadow. He introduced the terms introvert and extravert. His work on dreams, myths and personality types remains hugely influential. His Red Book records his own inner visions.
