Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic era, famous for his nocturnes, études, mazurkas and polonaises
Did you know? His heart was preserved in a jar of alcohol and buried separately in a church in Warsaw.
Chopin wrote almost entirely for the piano, and few composers have understood the instrument so intimately. His nocturnes, waltzes, mazurkas and ballades range from delicate and dreamy to fiercely dramatic. Many of his pieces draw on the folk dances of his native Poland, which he left as a young man and never saw again. He preferred playing in small, private salons rather than large concert halls. His music remains a cornerstone of every serious pianist's repertoire, and the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw is one of the most prestigious in the world.
Frédéric François Chopin (born Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin; 1 March 1810 – 17 October 1849) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the early Romantic period who wrote primarily for solo piano.
