Steve Wozniak was the engineer behind Apple's early success. Working mostly alone, he designed the Apple I and Apple II with elegant circuits and very few chips. The Apple II helped turn personal computers into mass-market products. He never wanted to run a company and left full-time work in 1985. Since then he has taught, given money to education and become a cheerful ambassador for tinkering. Many engineers still see him as a hero.
