Editor's Take:

Solange took years to find her own artistic voice away from her famous sister's shadow. Her early work was conventional pop and R&B. With True and especially A Seat at the Table she turned to quiet, layered soul about Black identity and self-care. Critics hailed it as one of the best albums of 2016. She works across music, film, dance and visual art. She has also designed objects and furniture. Her approach treats an album as one part of a wider creative world.
