Editor's Take:
Slavoj Žižek turned philosophy into a performance. He analyses Hollywood films, dirty jokes and toilet designs as eagerly as Hegel. He uses each to show how ideology shapes what we think is normal. His books arrive at a remarkable pace. Admirers find him dazzling and provocative. Critics complain that his arguments slip away just as they become clear. His rapid, sniffing lecture style has made him a global internet figure. He is one of the few living philosophers known well beyond universities.
