Editor's Take:

Playboi Carti has become one of the most influential rappers of his generation with a style many first found baffling. His mumbled, high-pitched vocals and minimal lyrics drew criticism. Yet they inspired a wave of imitators. Whole Lotta Red, with its punk energy, divided listeners at first but grew into a cult classic. He is famously secretive, often leaving fans waiting years for music. His Opium label has shaped a dark, aggressive strand of modern rap.
