Editor's Take:
Moshe ben Maimon, known as Maimonides, was the greatest Jewish thinker of the Middle Ages. He was born in Córdoba during Muslim rule in Spain. Persecution forced his family to flee, eventually to Egypt. There he became physician to the court of Saladin's vizier and leader of Cairo's Jewish community. His Mishneh Torah organised all of Jewish law into a clear code. His Guide for the Perplexed reconciled faith with Aristotle's philosophy. He also wrote medical works on diet, asthma and poisons. A saying runs: "From Moses to Moses there was none like Moses."
Moses Ben Maimon (Hebrew: מֹשֶׁה בֶּן־מַיְמוֹן, Moshe Ben Maimon, died 12 December 1204), commonly known as Maimonides and also referred to by the Hebrew acronym Rambam, was a Sephardic Jewish rabbi who is widely acknowledged as one of the most prolific and influential Torah scholars of the Middle Ages.
