Editor's Take:
Jan Hus was a Czech reformer burned for his beliefs a century before Luther. He was a priest and rector of the University of Prague. He preached in Czech to huge crowds at the Bethlehem Chapel. Inspired by John Wycliffe, he attacked the sale of indulgences and church corruption. He was excommunicated. Promised safe conduct, he went to the Council of Constance to defend himself. He was arrested, tried and burned at the stake in 1415. His death sparked the Hussite Wars.
