Editor's Take:
Henry VIII is one of the most famous and feared kings in English history. As a young man he was athletic, musical and highly educated. Desperate for a male heir, he sought to end his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. When the Pope refused, he broke with Rome and made himself head of the Church of England. He then dissolved the monasteries and seized their wealth. He married six times, and two of his wives were beheaded. He built up the Royal Navy. His break with Rome changed England for ever.
