Editor's Take:
Geta's short reign was overshadowed by a bitter rivalry with his brother. Their father had hoped the two would rule together. Instead they lived in separate halves of the palace and plotted against each other. Within a year Caracalla had him murdered. A purge of his supporters followed, and his memory was officially condemned. Erased portraits of him survive as rare evidence of that damnatio memoriae.
