The Gaza War, 2023
A conflict that began on 7 October
On 7 October 2023, Hamas-led militants broke through the border fence from Gaza and attacked communities and a music festival in southern Israel. Around 1,200 people were killed and about 250 were taken hostage, the deadliest day in Israel's history.
Israel declared war and launched a massive air and ground campaign in the Gaza Strip aimed at destroying Hamas and freeing the hostages. Tens of thousands of Palestinians were killed, most of Gaza's two million people were forced from their homes, and aid agencies warned of famine. Ceasefire deals brought the release of hostages and prisoners, while the war sparked protests and diplomatic battles around the world.

The 4th anniversary falls on October 7, 2027.
