Editor's Take:
Stevie Wonder was blind from infancy and a hit-maker before he was a teenager. In the 1970s he took control of his own music. He played many of the instruments himself and used new synthesisers. That produced a run of albums often called among the greatest in pop. His songs moved easily from love to protest. Superstition and Sir Duke are joyful, while Living for the City is angry. His campaign helped create a national holiday for Dr King.
