Editor's Take:
Reese Witherspoon became a star playing sharp, determined women in films like Election and Legally Blonde. Her Oscar-winning June Carter showed a richer dramatic range. Later she grew tired of a lack of good roles for women. She became a producer and set up her own company. Big Little Lies and other adaptations followed, often chosen through her book club. Many have been big successes. She now has as much influence behind the camera as in front of it.
