Editor's Take:
Grimes emerged from Montreal's DIY music scene with a sound that blended synth-pop, ethereal vocals and electronic experimentation. She built her early tracks alone, using basic software, which made her an influential figure for bedroom producers. Art Angels showed a sharper pop instinct while keeping her strange edges. She has always treated music, visuals and fashion as one project. Her relationship with Elon Musk, with whom she has three children, brought her a new kind of fame. She has also explored artificial intelligence, inviting fans to use an AI model of her voice.
