Editor's Take:

Eminem broke into hip-hop as an outsider and became one of the best-selling rappers of all time. Raised in Detroit, he honed his skills in fierce rap battles before being discovered by Dr. Dre. His alter ego, Slim Shady, allowed him to push boundaries with dark humour and shocking lyrics, sparking both admiration and controversy. His semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile told the story of his rise, and its song Lose Yourself became the first rap track to win the Oscar for Best Original Song. His rapid-fire wordplay and technical skill have made him a benchmark for rappers worldwide.
