Andrzej Duda served two terms as president of Poland, from 2015 to 2025. He was born in Kraków to a family of academics and trained as a lawyer at the Jagiellonian University. He worked in the office of President Lech Kaczyński, who was killed in the Smolensk air crash in 2010. Backed by the Law and Justice party, he won a surprise victory in 2015. His time in office brought bitter disputes with the European Union over judicial reforms. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he became a strong supporter of Kyiv.
